Eco Schools Initiative

By: Courtnee Lloyd

If you’re interested in making a difference then Eco Schools Initiative could be for you. This is a brand new club created by Mr. Hartman. Every Tuesday and Thursday after school, the meetings are held where about thirty students participate. The club’s activities consist of helping to decrease garbage and energy in the school community. Just last year the school introduced full scale recycling and this year Eco Schools Initiative introduced composting. Every Tuesday and Thursday students participating in this club stay in the cafeteria on their period three or four lunch to help other students with composting and recycling. In this club you will also have the opportunity to go on camping trips to Allegany and Bark Lake. Some major upcoming events are a fundraiser for poinsettia plants which will be taking place in early December. This fundraiser will help to buy trees to plant in front of the school and to also decrease of cost of the camping trips. In the New Year there will be a campaign to increase donations to buy trees to plant all over the school. Members would like to plant sixty trees honoring Notre Dame’s sixtieth anniversary. Eco Schools Initiative welcomes anyone in the school community or even outside the school community to help raise awareness to reduce garbage and energy.

If going green is your motto, then contact Mr. Hartman at anytime and make a difference in your community.
