The guidance and
career education department at Notre Dame is concerned first
and foremost with transition. The guidance department made
contact with our current student population when they were in
grade 7 and helped ease their transition into high school. The
career education portion of our portfolio is aimed at helping
our current students transition their way to either a
post-secondary institution, into an apprenticable trade or to
join the world of work. Our students will have the opportunity
to experience a wide variety of career choices through such
programs as Co-operative Education, Ontario Youth Apprentice
Program (OYAP) and Career Week. Academically, each student
will take a Career Studies course in grade 10 and have the
chance to take GLD20, a course aimed at discovering the
workplace as well as GWL30, Designing your Future.
It is our hope that everyone has a place to go to when their
high school career comes to an end. We encourage all parents
to be in touch with us over the 4 plus years your child is
here. It takes an effort on both of our parts to ensure future
success for all of our graduates.
